Network Hardware Integration
As technology evolves, the compatibility between equipment and devices evolves with it. Newer devices and gear work more smoothly with each other by design. But, of course, you still need to take specific steps to ensure proper integration within a network, especially when using slightly older types of equipment. Continue reading below to see how our network integration services work.
Category of Network Hardware
It takes numerous types of hardware to create a fully functional network. The various devices that may be used within a network include:
- Modem – A modem connects devices to the internet through cable, phone, or fiber cabling.
- Router – Networks use routers, also called Wireless Access Points (WAP), to connect to the internet. They also create wireless connections so that devices can access WiFi.
- Hubs, Bridges, and Switches – Hubs, bridges, and switches have similar but unique functions. By design, a seat sends data to all devices connected to a network. These can be used to connect multiple computers or video game consoles through a wired or wireless connection. Next, a bridge connects two separate networks, and checks with the receiving device before sending any data. This helps to cut down on unnecessary data transfers and can help improve the efficiency of the network. A switch is more powerful than either of the previous two devices, but it saves MAC addresses and only sends data to the devices that request it. Like a bridge, this helps to significantly cut down on useless transfers and helps keep the network running without cluttered bandwidth.
A few other network devices may be used, but the above are some of the most common.
Compatibility of Network Hardware
The first factor to consider when looking to integrate network hardware is compatibility. Nowadays, most devices are typically cross-compatible with other brands of devices. Although, there are still manufacturers who like to have proprietary designs that do not work or do not work well with different brands or types of devices. In addition, the age and capability of the devices need to be considered as well. Although, in some cases, it may simply be that devices are too old or outdated to be able to integrate within a modern network properly. Of course, in this case, the remedy is to update appliances that can adequately function within the contemporary network infrastructure.
